Orignal Description:Per the reporting party, at 0557 this morning the CHP in Barstow received a report of an overturned white semi-truck with a flat-bed trailer which resulted in a lithium ion battery fire. The battery is next to the overturned trailer. The San Bernardino County Fire Department is on scene and currently closing Northbound Interstate 15 at the Afton Road Exit near Mile Marker 113. Caltrans is also enroute to the incident. San Bernardino County Fire Department and Caltrans will be performing the clean-up. | ||||||
Update(s): 07/26/2024 02:42:31 PM - Per the NRC report, the caller reported a tractor trailer truck flipped over on the highway for unknown reasons. The trailer contained six units of lithium batteries, and each unit weighs 5600 kilograms. After the accident the trailer began to smoke and caught on fire for unknown reasons. The caller stated there was also a discharge of an unknown amount of an unknown oil from the motor of the truck that went onto asphalt and gravel. No waterway was impacted. There is a road closure of Interstate 15 north and south. Local authorities are on scene. Unknown if the release is secured. The environmental impact is unknown. |
