Orignal Description:A fire sprinkler system was activated in a room at a battery energy storage facility. The three on-site staff members safely evacuated and alerted emergency services. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, along with its Hazardous Materials Incident Response Team (HIRT), responded to the scene. Assisted by local law enforcement, fire personnel secured the area and are currently investigating the incident. Although smoke remains in the room, an initial assessment revealed no chemical release from any of the batteries. However, an unknown amount of sprinkler water may have entered an off-site storm drain, with its destination unknown. The battery energy storage system will remain off-line until a thorough inspection is completed. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
