Orignal Description:Caller states that on 12/2/2024, a sheen was discovered near their commercial passenger vessel. The sheen, measuring approximately 3 1/2 feet by 100 feet, was observed next to the vessel while it was at the berth. Mechanics conducted tests to determine if the release originated from their vessel, but the source of the release remains unknown. The release has been stopped but not contained, with waterways impacted (San Francisco Bay).

SITUATION UPDATE:
Per the NRC report: "The caller reported that a sheen was observed on the waters of the San Francisco Bay alongside their ferry. After an investigation, the vessel was brought in for maintenance and the gearbox intercooler was swapped out. It is unconfirmed that the sheen was from the vessel, but it is suspected that about (2) gallons of hydraulic oil may have been discharged." Remedial Actions: "An investigation is underway to determine if the vessel is discharging."
