Orignal Description:The reporting party states that an AMTRAK passenger train (Lead Locomotive: AMTK337, ID: AMT1131) collided with a boulder, puncturing the traction motor and releasing 1.75 gallons of traction oil onto the ground. The release has been stopped and contained. No waterways were impacted. There were no derailments and no injuries reported. The reporting party will look into the cleanup at a later time. | ||||||
Update(s): 11/01/2024 08:49:28 AM - Per the NRC Report : "The caller reported a large rock (boulder) was on a track and was struck by a passenger train at the incident location. The caller stated one locomotive was damaged and discharged approximately 1.75 gallons of an unknown oil onto the ballast. -no injuries, or derailments. -the caller stated the boulder on the tracks did not appear to be intentionally placed there." Remedial Actions : "Unknown" Passenger Train Delay Handling: "The passenger's remained on board until the damaged car was uncoupled, and proceeded with the other car." ---RAILROAD INFORMATION--- Railroad Involved: AMTRAK Train Number: AMT11-31 |
