Orignal Description:Per the NRC Report: "Possible, unconfirmed oil was observed in satellite imagery.

REPORT DATE: 12-16-2024
REPORT TIME: 1820 UTC
REGION: PACIFIC
SUB REGION: CALIFORNIA
AREA/BLOCK: SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 6204
IMAGE DATE: 12-16-2024
IMAGE TIME: 1353 UTC
DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A
AREA: 6.02 SQUARE KILOMETERS
CONFIDENCE: MEDIUM-HIGH

Remarks: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The slick was roughly 35.98 NM west of the San Diego, CA coast. It was approximately 6.03 NM long and approx. 0.52 NM wide. The dark colored anomaly had well-defined edges and a strong contrast against the ocean background. There were no natural phenomena or seeps in close proximity making the slick appear out of place. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the NW at 7 KTS which aligned well with the orientation of the slick.

Uncertainties: Although there was a possible vessel approximately 9.95 NM SE of the slick, there was low confidence identifying a possible point source."

Additional: USCG Sector San Diego was also contacted; they have advised their Pollution Response Team.
