| g. DESCRIPTION: | Per the reporting party, at approximately 1200 this afternoon, while transferring bilge water from the ship to the processing plant, there was a pipe that cracked on the pump station. This caused the release of the listed material. 15 gallons impacted the asphalt deck of the Pier. Approximately 1/8 of a gallon went into the storm drain catch basin. United States Navy personnel cleaned the spill using dry sweep on the asphalt. The storm drain catch basin was cleaned with a vacuum truck until it was empty. Per the NRC report, the caller reported a discharge of approximately 15 gallons of oily water from their bilge on Pier K at Naval Air Station North Island. The caller stated the discharge occurred due to a cracked pipe on the pump station receiving the bilge water from a U.S. Navy vessel. The caller stated that the exact cause of the crack is unknown. The transfer was stopped. The asphalt was cleaned with absorbent media, and the catch basin was vacuumed out. | ||
