g. DESCRIPTION: Per the Reporting Party : Incident occurred inside a biotech/manufacturing facility. Due to a faulty sensor, a sealed waste collection drum overflowed 10 gallons of mix solvent waste into a secondary containment vessel that did not have a lid. From the secondary containment vessel vapor escaped and released into the room atmosphere, into a ventilation system and then outside the building into the atmosphere. The material that released in vapor form was a combination of acetonitrile (40% to 60%), dichloromethane (20%-30%), dichloroacetic acid (5%-10%), and pyridine (5%-10%). This occurred inside a "H3" rated room in the facility. The vapor release began around 1930 on 4/9/2024 and was stopped at 2015 on 4/9/2024. The material released into the atmosphere is unrecoverable. A contractor responded to pump the waste out of the overflow container in to a new drum.
