g. DESCRIPTION: Silicone oil was added to a 30-gallon container of powdered aluminum as a neutralizer in preparation for disposal. For unknown reasons, the mixture began to off-gas. The Los Angeles County Fire Department was contacted and is currently on-site, while the Health Hazardous Materials Division is en route to assist. As a precaution, the outdoor incident area has been isolated, and the facility was evacuated of its approximately 15 personnel. No staff members were exposed to the gas, and no medical care was needed. Management has remained on-site, while the other employees have been allowed to leave for the day. Fire personnel are likely to permit the off-gassing to continue while monitoring the chemical process for safety. If this course of action is taken, there is no anticipated danger to the public.
