g. DESCRIPTION: Per the reporting party: Personnel located at the Marathon Petroleum Refinery observed a sheen of unknown material on the surface of the water in the Dominguez Channel north of their facility. The Dominguez Channel is a tributary of the East Basin and Pacific Ocean. A thorough inspection was conducted of their facility and all potential outlets that could release into the channel but all operations were normal and the sheen is not affiliated with their facility. It is unknown where the material originated. Facility personnel will deploy BOOMs if the tide moves the material back down south towards their location, however it is currently too far away for them to collect the material. Caller reported the sheen to be a soapy and greasy substance.

Per the NRC report: "The caller reported an unknown sheen from an unknown source heading North on the Dominguez Channel at the incident location." Remedial Actions: "BOOM is being applied."
